Check out the great engineering ideas from the CREATE2011 Challenge final!

Engineering contributes to society, improving and impacting the way we live our lives in a positive way.

Welcome to CREATE2011, an annual engineering challenge brought to you by the Creators of Tomorrow in collaboration with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), Nokia and the Science Centre.

The CREATE2011 Challenge was to come up with an idea related to the theme of Future Mobility and how this can improve the way we play, think, live and connect.

Habbos are among the 70,900 votes received in all!

Thank you for all your support for the Grand Finalists at the final judging process, they deserved every vote they received! Congratulations to the ‘The Ideators’ from Nanyang Girls' High School (Junior Category) and ‘The Three Musketeers’ from Anglo-Chinese Junior College (Senior Category). They won the Grand Finals with their ideas and walked away with the fantastic Nokia Experiential Journey Grand Prize.

These lucky winners will be spending 4 days at the Nokia Campus in Beijing, including tours to the Design Centre, and state-of-the-art Nokia manufacturing facility in China, as well as an exclusive visit to Nokia’s regional headquarters in Singapore to meet the people behind Nokia’s business and innovation.

Their winning Entry (Junior):
An alcohol breathalyzer which tests alcohol in humans, which is directly linked to circuits within the car engine, which will be interrupted if the alcohol content is too high for the driver to drive. The system then sends an SMS to the first person on your mobile phone contact list. To view the winning junior entry click here, or view their video below.

Their winning Entry (Senior):
‘fisor’ (a finger sensor), a new way of ‘controlling’ your computer cursor. The product can replace the mouse as it can enhance a user’s mobility and can be used for medical, entertainment and industrial purposes. One set of ‘fisor’ consists of five airborne finger-tip-sized cursor controllers, meant for the use of one hand. The intensive use of nanotechnology enables it to be equipped with motion sensing to control the mouse cursor. Supporting multi-touch, fisor makes everyday works easier, especially during presentation. It does not require any surface to function unlike the mouse. It offers real convenience anywhere you go.
