Every year, billions of animals are captured from the wild and traded by hunters. Animals are either traded for their body parts, like elephant ivory and tiger bile, or they are sold as exotic pets. A great deal of this trade is illegal. It is estimated that the illegal wildlife trade is worth anywhere from US$ 6 to 20 billion. Many of the animals traded are endangered or are almost extinct.
Many of the methods in capturing these animals are painful and inhumane they are poisoned, trapped, starved, or bludgeoned to death. Even though they are expensive, many people will still purchase illegal animals and their parts. In Asia, illegal wildlife trade is a huge problem and many species are dying because poor countries do not have the resources or the training to stop these hunters.
