The commercial trade in wild animals is a multi-billion dollar business that threatens the survival of many animals as well as resulting in the cruel and inhumane treatment of many animals each year. Most of the time, these kinsds of trades are illegal. Interpol estimates that that the current illegal wildlife trade is valued at US$6 to 20 billion. This means that most animals that are being traded are at risk of becoming extinct.

Millions of animals of all kinds are captured from their habitats and sold or killed for their parts in the worldwild wildlife trade. They can be divided into two: selling live animals as illegal pets, or selling the parts of the animals either as delicacies or as ingredients in traditional medicines.
