Jouw wekelijkse dosis Habbo nieuws!

Hey Habbo's,

Especially for the British week, your lovely Hotel Manager Lotus stepped aside to let us write the intro for your newsletter. We are very happy to be here in Habbo NL and would like to invite you all this afternoon to join us for a traditional English high tea in the British Salon. To get in the mood, here are some historical facts about our beloved Big Ben, the famous tower in our nations capital, which is this months Collectible.

Even though most people know the tower by the name of Big Ben, it is actually called The Clock Tower of The Palace of Westminster. The name Big Ben at first referred to the giant bell inside. Over the years, the tower itself became known as Big Ben, whether it liked it or not!

The Tower was completed in 1858 and the clock became operational on the 7th of September 1859. The Clock Tower is the world's biggest four-faced, chiming clock and is situated at the north-eastern end of the Houses of Parliament in the City of Westminster. The exact reason the bell was called Big Ben is unknown.

Ok, so we've figured out the Big bit in the name!

However, the Ben it refers too remains a mystery. Some say it refers to the construction commissioner Sir Benjamin Hall; while others think it refers to Victorian heavyweight boxer Benjamin Caunt.

We do know, however, it doesn't refer to Olympic drugs cheat Ben Johnson, American President Benjamin Franklin or Ben from Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

Lost_Witness says it wasn't Benji or Benidorm either.

Now you know a little about our famous icon, go get acquainted with it!
